You are not alone

When most people think of pregnancy and childbirth emotions such as happiness and excitement seem to come to mind. However, it is a fact that not everyone can experience the same feelings. If you do not have those positive feelings or have emotional struggles; you are not alone. Is has become unfortunate that providing treatment that is affordable, easily accessible, and evidence-based is challenging (Guille et al., 2013).

If you are having difficulty with being happy during this time then it is important to let your health care provider know. It is not something to be ashamed or embarrassed about sharing. In fact in my opinion it is very brave to share such thoughts.

Facts about Postpartum Depression found from (Camp, 2013):

  • 10% of new fathers have experienced PPD
  • cause remains unknown
  • factors possibly triggering include stressors, genetics, or psychosocial factors

Discussion

I would like to start an open forum with a couple questions and any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated! Beyond seeking professional help:

  • What are some relaxation techniques you use to help lessen anxiety?
  • What are some activities that can be used as distraction techniques?
